How to Create Kapture Sessions

First things first, can you see the Kapture icon at the top of your browser? and is color surrounding the "K" green?

If the answer is "No", then go here to troubleshoot the problem.

From here it's pretty simple, just start browsing or researching. Kapture has a default behavior of recording all pages you visit less those that are secure or encrypted. This means any page where the URL/address begins with https://. Most browsers will also show a lock icon somewhere within the browser window frame

Today, Kapture labels the session title with either a date stamp or with the title of the first page browsed as defined by the HTML title tag.

We understand that many people may want to tailor the Kapture behavior with respect to what pages get Kaptured. We allow users a preference to Kapture secure pages, but we advise you to be particularly careful to remove potentially private information if you begin sharing sessions with others. We also provide users a simple way to block the recording of entire websites using our blacklist function.

For example, for a casual user of news, weather and entertainment sites where there is seldom residual value in the information viewed, simply visit the site - like weather.com - and add it to your blacklist using the pulldown menu "Add Site to Blacklist".

Start a New Session

What if you want to start doing a different line of research. Kapture makes the division simple. From the Kapture pull-down menu, select "Start New Kapture Session". That's it. The new session will begin with the page you are viewing at that moment. The session title will be the HTML title of the current page.

How to Search My Kapture Sessions

For now, you need to be logged into the KaptureInfo.com website. There are two way to get there.

Once logged in, do a search using the search field or browse via the folder structures you may have created.

Sharing Kapture Sessions

We promised sharing is simple. From inside the website, click "Share", enter an email address, add a message if you like and click "Send". A short confirmation dialog box will appear at the top of your web page.

Managing Preferences

Using the Blacklist Function

Editing the Blacklist is the only function available through the plugin at this point. In Firefox, you can enable HTTPS page collection too. This feature is not currently enabled in the Internet Explorer plugin.

Using the Website Preferences

The Preferences section in the KaptureInfo.com site allows you to do 3 things:

View Session Orientation

There are two orientations for the filmstrip view of sessions: vertical and horizontal. Our experience shows that vertical orientation tends to work out better for users with resolution of 1024x768 or similar. As your resolution extends beyond 1280x1024, the horizontal layout tends to be better suited.

Additionally, Firefox users have a small icon in the upper right corner that looks like which they can use to expand or contract the frame the web pages is displayed in.

Change Your Password

A password security feature soon to be implemented will log you out after the password has been reset. This is necessary to prevent continued use of the client. Continued use of the client will require the user to enter in the new username and password information. If someone does have your username and password, you can use the "Forgot your passord?" feature on the KaptureInfo.com home page to have our automated system reset your password. A confirmation link will be sent to you registered email address where you will be instructed further.

Edit your Blacklist

Your Blacklist settings are maintained on the KaptureInfo.com servers. This is done to make sure your data is available to you from anywhere. When your plugin connects to the server after your browser is started, the server-side blacklist is downloaded into your browser. The client evaluates each URL you visit against this list and ignores all top-level domains found on the blacklist, i.e. kapture.info, weather.com, etc.
